Uganda Preparations

We are leaving for Uganda in less than two months, and there are many preparations and plans to make before leaving! Our travel plans are beginning to solidify. We have a 10 day cross cultural missions orientation in Toronto Jan 4-15, 2009. Then we are off to Uganda on Jan 19, 2009. We will be living in the Bushenyi region in south west Uganda. We are both looking forward to our placement and the opportunity to serve and learn in a new culture and environment.

What is the Theological Student Internship Program (TSIIP)?

Jeff has the opportunity to travel under the Anglican Church of Canada’s TSIIP. This is a valuable program that offers Anglican students the opportunity to participate in a parish placement in another country. The goals of this program are to allow the students to increase their awareness of global issues, deepen their commitment to the Anglican Church’s mission and ministry and to gain cross-cultural experience. Jeff will be serving in the Diocese of West Ankole under the Rt. Rev. Yona Katoneene.

Michelle has the opportunity to ‘tag along’ on Jeff’s placement. We are fortunate to be travelling to the region where Rev. Dr. Carolyn Langford, an Anglican Volunteer in Mission from the Ottawa region, is also serving. She is the principle of a new tertiary college, Ankole Western Institute of Science and Technology, that aims to provide affordable education to Ugandans. Michelle will be teaching a course in Clinical Diagnostics to the Animal Health and Production students.
